About Us

Kathryn and Andy

Fountain Cottage is technically my "project", but in reality the whole family is very much involved. I taught History for 10 years, but have been a stay-at-home Mum since Charlie was born - though I've remained involved in education as a school governor. I have had a fascination with Cornwall since a small child when I was told that I had a Cornish Great Grandmother. This was further stoked when I read Rosemary Manning's Green Smoke - set in Constantine Bay and Treyarnon - about a million times! (You will find a copy of it on the bookshelves at Fountain Cottage.) Andrew and I finally made it to Cornwall in 2003 - and it was love at first sight. We've been coming back pretty much every year ever since! In my spare time, I sing in an a capella choir, support the work with children at our village church and am often found pounding the surrounding pavements and countryside with Rosie.

Andy is a director for an engineering company in Warwickshire. We met at University in Hull in 1992 and celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on the coast path between Polzeath and Daymer Bay in August 2018, whilst visiting the cottage to make the final decision to buy it! Quite how two people who love the sea so much ended up living in one of the most landlocked villages in the country is anyone's guess! Andy cycles in his spare time - and is hoping that now the decorating and fact-finding missions to the cottage have calmed down, he might get to cycle around the St Breward area on our visits!

Charlie and Tom

Both boys are now at high school. Charlie is obsessed with Formula 1 and all things car-related. For no particular reason, Tom is obsessed with squirrels, though when he isn't thinking about them he is learning to play the guitar and bell-ring too. They have always loved the outdoors and long family walks - and have been taken along to stately homes and historical sites since they were very small and loved them. The boys have been coming to Cornwall all their lives - both making their first visit aged about 12 weeks,We have a lasting memory of Charlie stepping in a rockpool straight over his wellies on his first visit to Trebarwith Strand, aged about two!

Rosie

Rosie the Working Cocker Spaniel joined the family in January 2018 as the family's first dog - and steepest learning curve. Main interests are chasing birds and squirrels (much to Tom's displeasure), barking at the postman, rolling in mud and eating unmentionable things.
